Brewers re-signed RHP Trevor Hoffman to a one-year, $7.5 million contract.
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that the deal also includes a mutual $7 million option for 2011 with a $500,000 buyout. There are also incentives that could push the total value of the deal to $16.5 million depending on how many games Hoffman saves in 2010. Hoffman, who turns 42 on Tuesday, went 37-for-41 in save opportunities with a 1.83 ERA in 2009.

 Trevor Hoffman-R - Brewers Oct. 5 - 11:38 am et

ESPN.com's Buster Olney reports closer Trevor Hoffman has agreed to a one-year, $8 million contract with the Brewers.
The new pact also includes a mutual option for 2011. Hoffman, who turns 42 in a week, finished the year with a 1.83 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in 54 innings and is just nine saves shy of 600 for his career. That $8 million chunk of change probably should have gone toward improving the starting rotation, but it's not an awful deal. Hoffman converted 37-of-41 saves this season.

Free-agent-to-be Trevor Hoffman indicated after Sunday's game that he's close to re-signing with the Brewers.
Hoffman made $6 million this year in his first season with the Brewers. He blew his fourth save today, but he picked up a win anyway and he finished the year with a 1.83 ERA in 54 innings. He's just nine saves away from 600.

According to ESPN.com's Buster Olney, the Giants have put in a waiver claim on Milwaukee closer Trevor Hoffman.
The Brewers are going to demand a lot for the all-time saves leader and many, including Olney, think a deal won't get done. In making the claim, the Giants blocked the division rival Rockies and Dodgers from grabbing him, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.

An undisclosed team claimed RHP Trevor Hoffman off trade waivers Thursday, reports FOXSports.com.
Wouldn't surprise us if it was the Marlins. Hoffman has had a sterling season, posting a 1.85 ERA and 27 saves for the Brew Crew. A deal, however, is unlikely as he's said he wants to remain in Milwaukee and GM Doug Melvin has indicated any waiver deal at all is highly unlikely.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports the Brewers have placed all-time saves leader Trevor Hoffman, among others, on waivers.
Outfielder Mike Cameron, infielder Craig Counsell, catcher Jason Kendall, right-hander Braden Looper and second baseman Felipe Lopez have also been made available. As Rosenthal notes, interested clubs have until Thursday at 1 p.m. EST to make a claim. Hoffman, who has 27 saves and a 1.89 ERA, is likely to draw the most interest. Every playoff-bound team is looking to add another reliable bullpen arm.
